Categorized as a group of sea rays, they are related to sharks. They consist of eight families of fish like Plesiobatidae, Urotrygonidae, Hexatrygonidae, Urolophidae, Potamotrygonidae, Dasyatidae, Myliobatidae, and Gymnuridae.
